At the upcoming Poetry Games event, Games into Film: Poetic Landscapes, hear how poets inhabit digital landscapes through walking and words. Exhibition curator Nick Murrary will be joined by poet, game developer, and exhibiting Poetry Games artist Calum Rodger for a discussion on poetry machinima works – films made entirely from in-game footage, using Rodger’s work Rock, Star, North, as a starting point. Rodger’ poetic travelogue set in the Grand Theft Auto V universe was influenced by Basho, Wordsworth and Nan Shepherd, and is based on the poet’s idiosyncratic journey through the game-world in pursuit of the ‘virtual sublime’.
In addition, Nick will be joined remotely by Victoria Bennett and Adam Clarke, creators of Minecraft poem ‘My Mother’s House’, for a screening and in-game exploration of the poem. Bennett and Clarke’s collaborative poem-world built in Minecraft explores the personal experience of bereavement and terminal illness and was funded by The Writing Platform to look at how literature and new technologies can work together.
